VA Gamma Xi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization for women educators, was chartered on June 25 at Sutherland Elementary School in Sutherland, Virginia.
Alpha Delta Kappa guests presiding over the ceremonies were Florence Bishop, International Chaplain; Michèle Meadors, Southeast Region Membership Consultant; Judy Tate, Southeast Region Excellence in Education Award Chairman; Sandy Wolfe, State President; Julie Kidd, State President-Elect; Jayne Perala, State Corresponding Secretary; Betty Perkinson, State Vice President and Membership Consultant; Sue Couper, State Parliamentarian; Conway Blankenship, Pocahontas District President; and Adelaide Weeks, Pocahontas District Chaplain.
Other Alpha Delta Kappa guests in attendance were Beth Oakes, Commonwealth District President; Patsy Gilbert, Southwest Highlands District Secretary; Linda Warren, State Courtesy Chairman; and Kay Ellen Woolridge, State Music Chairman and Gamma Xi Chapter Sponsor.
Guests from Dinwiddie included John Talmage, Chairman, Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors; Dr. Charles Maranzano, Superintendent, Dinwiddie County Public Schools; and William Haney, District 2 Representative of Dinwiddie County School Board.
Dr. Troilen Seward, former superintendent of Dinwiddie County Public Schools and administrator with Workforce Development Outreach at John Tyler Community College, was also in attendance.
Twenty-five educators from Dinwiddie County Public Schools were initiated and became the charter members of VA Gamma Xi Chapter.
They are: Becky Baskerville, Janice Bielmyer, Jennifer Boyd, Lorraine Campbell, Christie Clarke, Flora Clarke, Sheryl Faison, Carol Gibbs, Trenia Harris, Stephanie Harvell, Anne Holsinger, Ashley Jones, Donna Mayton, Magen Moore, Judieth Richardson, Jennifer Smith, Wanda Snodgrass, Gloria Starck, Danette Stephenson, Amanda Sutton, Kimberly Taylor, Kathleen Thweatt, Rebecca Tilson, Amanda Walker and Tia Wilson.
Members installed as chapter officers for 2008-2010 were Amanda Walker, President; Magen Moore, President-Elect; Kimberly Taylor, Recording Secretary; Ashley Jones, Corresponding Secretary; Tia Wilson, Treasurer; Lorraine Campbell, Historian; Gloria Starck, Sergeant-at-Arms; and Flora Clarke, Chaplain.
A brunch was provided by Pocahontas District chapters and presided over by Gamma Eta Chapter, sponsoring chapter of Gamma Xi.
District chapters represented were Delta (Chesterfield), Alpha Beta (Colonial Heights), Beta Upsilon (Chesterfield), Beta Phi (Chesterfield), Gamma Eta (Chesterfield), and Gamma Kappa (Powhatan).
The flowers for the ceremony and brunch were provided by Hughes Flowers of Colonial Heights, Virginia.
