Fans of Owen Lane, the chef who made The Track a favorite destination for many Richmonders, can now find him at his new job -- executive chef at Strong Hill Dining Company.

The restaurant, at 1200 N. Boulevard, was scheduled to open yesterday.

Lane has been in Richmond five years. His résumé also includes working at Bacchus and helping to open Hanover Tavern. This time, he says, it's a slightly different route for him, with a menu that is completely based on Southern foods.

The entrees on Lane's menu will be priced from $14 to $26, with the majority about $23 to $24.

Selections include such innovative creations as wild boar with a black-eyed pea cake, collard greens and tasso ham gravy; grilled quail with scotch quail eggs and cauliflower potato mash drizzled with maple glaze; and his own twist on chicken and waffles -- game hen marinated in buttermilk and spices, coated with crushed Virginia peanuts and fried, and served over a waffle and collard greens, topped with honey.

Strong Hill Dining Company, owned by Rob and Jessica Weaver of River City Tattoo, will be open seven days a week, serving dinner only.

The 17th Virginia location of Red Robin opened this week in Chesterfield Towne Center (11500 Midlothian Turnpike).

As part of its grand opening, the burger spot will host a Burgers With a Heart fundraiser to benefit the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Through Sunday, Red Robin will donate 50 cents from every burger to the charity.

Also now open: Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches in Short Pump Station (the same shopping center as the new Trader Joe's).

Closed: For weeks, the restaurant was closed on random days and management voice mailboxes were filled to capacity. And now, Cabo's Corner Bistro is gone. Or at least until further notice.

Also gone: California Tortilla on Lauderdale Drive (in the Shoppes at Westgate). There are still several locations in northern Virginia and one in Williamsburg.
