Since every musical superstar from Prince to The Rolling Stones has already done it, obviously, it's time for The Boss. The official halftime entertainment for the 2009 Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla., will come courtesy of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band . . . Sean Combs and MTV are pairing for a new show, "StarMaker." The goal of the series, produced by reality kingpin Mark Burnett, is to find "the next history-making superstars." Look for it in January. . . . Jesse McCartney has been tapped for a role in ABC Family's "Greek." He'll play Andy, a high school friend of Calvin's (Paul James) who is also a sought-after pledge. Or something like that. The show returns this spring . . . Word is that Best Buy will have the exclusive retailer rights to the elusive Guns N' Roses record, "Chinese Democracy." Some people believe the album, which has been delayed numerous times over the span of 10 years, will finally arrive by the end of the year.

Daniel Powter has struggled to maintain the popularity he found with 2006's "Bad Day," but fans can now get more of him with "Songs From Under the Radar," a digital EP of four songs. . . . Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride" gets re-released Oct. 21 with five new holiday tracks. This "premium version" will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart. Then on Nov. 18, Underwood's tunes get reworked for the little ones on "Lullaby Renditions of Carrie Underwood." . . . Rod Stewart's latest compilation, "The Definitive Rod Stewart," arrives Nov. 18. The set will come in a two-CD version with the unreleased track "Two Shades of Blue," as well as a deluxe version with a DVD of videos. . . . Wendy (Melvoin) and Lisa (Coleman), known primarily by their first names from their days in Prince's band, The Revolution, have worked for years as composers of music for film and TV. The girls have been scoring NBC's "Heroes" since its inception and are finishing a "Heroes" score CD.
