Even Richmond's groovy new indoor venues can't replace the atmosphere, the vibe, the . . . wearing-of-short-skirts-drinking-beer-out-of-a-plastic-cup environment of Richmond's outdoor summer concerts.
This year, we've temporarily lost Lewis Ginter's Groovin' in the Garden while the usual concert area is expanded and re-sodded.
But the rest of the series staples are back with typical diversity: Everyone from country kings Travis Tritt and Trace Adkins to'80s rockers Foreigner and Poison (no hair jokes, please) will cruise through Innsbrook.
Meanwhile, Fridays at Sunset has landed the fleet-footed Mario and critically christened Ledisi. Friday Cheers brings Carbon Leaf back home, along with the eclectic stylings of the Philly psychedelic rock band Dr. Dog and the recently revived Arrested Development. And Short Pump, Petersburg and Prince George County have assembled a varied lineup of local and regional acts for their respective series.
So get out there and enjoy the summer.
