Times-Dispatch food writer Jann Malone has won an honorable mention in the National Federation of Press Women Communications Contest for editing the Books & Authors section in 2007.

Contest entries included all first-place winners in state contests, including Virginia Press Women's. The judge who awarded Malone's entry first place in the VPW contest said: "Remarkably well done for such little space. Packaging of genres, a variety of voices among the many reviewers. There's a lot of thought evident in the creation of these sections."

Malone, who has worked at The Times-Dispatch for 32 years, edited the book section from July 2005 through February 2008. She became the paper's food writer in January.
