Two books from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts -- "Country Pursuits: British, American and French Sporting Art From the Mellon Collections in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts" and "Selections From the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts" -- have won awards.
"Country Pursuits" was chosen as one of two winners of a Silver Award in the mid-Atlantic best regional nonfiction category in the 2008 Independent Publisher Awards. It was written by VMFA's retired Paul Mellon Curator Malcolm Cormack and was co-published by VMFA and the University of Virginia Press. The book is a survey of the genre using examples from the museum's Paul Mellon Collection of British Sporting Art.
"Selections From the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts" was named a Notable Government Document for 2007 by Library Journal. It was written by Anne B. Barriault and Kay M. Davidson and published by the VMFA. In selecting the book, the Library Journal judges noted its "exquisite color illustrations and descriptions [that] help give readers a taste of the holdings of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts."
