As the Richmond Ballet closes the curtains on its current season, it looks forward to its silver anniversary.

The ballet, under the leadership of artistic director Stoner Winslett, has continued to thrive. Next season, a quarter-century since it became the commonwealth's first professional ballet company, it will present classics and world premieres.

The popular Studio Series returns with four programs showcasing the company's talent. Studios 1, 2, and 3 pair world premieres with popular pieces from the repertory. Studio 4 closes the season with its first performance of George Balanchine's "The Four Temperaments."

Twelve performances of "The Nutcracker" will brighten the holiday season and the treasured fairytale of "Cinderella" unfolds just in time for Valentine's Day. Both of these works will be performed at the Landmark Theater.

The season includes:

  • "Studio 1," Sept. 16-21 at the Studio Theatre leads off with "Jardin aux Lilas" by Anthony Tudor and a world premiere yet to be announced.
  • "Studio 2," Nov. 11-16, with "Ancient Airs and Dances" by Stoner Winslett plus a world premiere yet to be announced.
